Microphone preamp with high pass filter

FetHead Filter is a high quality, phantom powered in-line preamp. It has a built-in high pass filter at 220Hz cutoff (other frequencies are available on request), this reduces the excessive low frequency/proximity effects that some microphones exhibit, such as long motor ribbon mics. The filter elements are not directly in the signal path but are applied to the components which set the gain of the FetHead Filter's amplifier. This ensures frequency dependence and that the sonic characteristics of the FetHead Filter are preserved.
Proximity effect is a phenomenon that leads to an increase in low frequency response as you move the mic closer to the source. The closer you get, the bigger the bass boost. This effect might be cool to achieve a very deep radio voice, but on other sources it might be problematic. Our Fethead Filter helps to tame excessive low frequency buildup and guarantees clear sound.
Your Fethead Filter will latch straight onto any XLR equipped microphone, or anywhere else in the signal path between microphone and preamp/mixer. The electronics are housed in a robust metal chassis with a balanced female XLR input and a balanced male XLR output, rugged enough for use at home, in the studio or on tour.
Some older ribbon microphones do not tolerate phantom power. Fethead Filter uses phantom power to power its circuitry, but doesn’t pass phantom power to the microphone, so rest assured your ribbon mics are safe.
